EVIDENCE2e-CODEX is organizing, together with “Electronic Xchange of e-Evidences with e-CODEX” (EXEC) and the e-Evidence Project led by the European Commission, a joint workshop on 'Merging Views' on 25-26 September 2019 in Florence Italy! It is a two-day event engaging technical and legal experts from the digital justice community to discuss and test the three projects' applications. Check out the agenda and all related details by following the link above!
Background
To achieve EVIDENCE2e-CODEX goals, it will be of utmost importance to break down the electronic evidence life cycle in simple phases in order to verify the capacity of the formal language to store the forensic and legal information related to the current status of the evidence: initialization of the case, search and seizure, acquisition, analysis taking into consideration the preservation and the chain of custody. Relying on pseudo-anonymization of real cases, a simulation on how the formalism represents all the involved information is to be prepared in order to evaluate the strengths and the weakness of the chosen formalism within the project.
EVIDENCE2e-CODEX team is working hard to produce a 'true to life' working solution by integrating the formal language for representing and supporting the electronic evidence exchange process in an electronic evidence platform based on e-CODEX architecture, i.e. the Evidence Exchange Standard Package (EESP) Application. The focus of the project is the exchange of electronic evidence within the EIO or other cross-border instruments for mutual legal assistance.
All EESP Application features and key legal findings related to its development have been periodically discussed with stakeholders:
Workshop on the Formal Language for Evidence Exchange Representation (incl. Interim Workshop on Evidence Exchange Standard Package Application), 20-21 November 2019, The Hague, the Netherlands;
'EVIDENCE2e-CODEX: Meeting the Legal Community' Workshop, 15 January 2019, Brussels, Belgium;
'Meeting the Technical Community: Validation of the Evidence Exchange Standard Package Application' Workshop (incl. Final Workshop on Evidence Exchange Standard Package Application), 26-27 March 2019, The Hague, the Netherlands.
